【摘要】:Thesurface-cracktension(SCT)testisusedtoestimatetheload-carryingcapacityofsimplesheet-orplate-likestructuralcomponentshavingatypeofflawlikelytooccurinservice.Thetestisalsousedforresearchpurposestoinvestigatefailuremechanismsofcracksunderserviceconditions.TheresidualstrengthofanSCTspecimenisafunctionofthecrackdepthandlengthandthespecimenthicknessaswellasthecharacteristicsofthematerial.Thisrelationshipisextremelycomplexandcannotbecompletelydescribedorcharacterizedatpresent.4.2.1TheresultsoftheSCTtestaresuitablefordirectapplicationtodesignonlywhentheserviceconditionsexactlyparallelthetestconditions.SomemethodsforfurtheranalysisaresuggestedinAppendixX1.InorderthatSCTtestdatacanbecomparableandreproducibleandcanbecorrelatedamonglaboratories,itisessentialthatuniformSCTtestingpracticesbeestablished.Thespecimenconfiguration,preparation,andinstrumentationdescribedinthispracticearegenerallysuitableforcyclic-orsustained-forcetestingaswell.However,certainconstraintsarepeculiartoeachofthesetests.ThesearebeyondthescopeofthispracticebutarediscussedinRef.(1).1.1Thispracticecoversthedesign,preparation,andtestingofsurface-cracktension(SCT)specimens.Itrelatesspecificallytotestingundercontinuouslyincreasingforceandexcludescyclicandsustainedloadings.Thequantitydeterminedistheresidualstrengthofaspecimenhavingasemiellipticalorcircular-segmentfatiguecrackinonesurface.Thisvaluedependsonthecrackdimensionsandthespecimenthicknessaswellasthecharacteristicsofthematerial.1.2Metallicmaterialsthatcanbetestedarenotlimitedbystrength,thickness,ortoughness.However,testsofthickspecimensoftoughmaterialsmayrequireatensiontestmachineofextremelyhighcapacity.Theapplicabilityofthispracticetononmetallicmaterialshasnotbeendetermined.1.3Thispracticeislimitedtospecimenshavingauniformrectangularcrosssectioninthetestsection.Thetestsectionwidthandlengthmustbelargewithrespecttothecracklength.Crackdepthandlengthshouldbechosentosuittheultimatepurposeofthetest.1.4Residualstrengthmaydependstronglyupontemperaturewithinacertainrangedependinguponthecharacteristicsofthematerial.Thispracticeissuitablefortestsatanyappropriatetemperature.1.5Residualstrengthisbelievedtoberelativelyinsensitivetoloadingratewithintherangenormallyusedinconventionaltensiontests.Whenveryloworveryhighratesofloadingareexpectedinservice,theeffectofloadingrateshouldbeinvestigatedusingspecialproceduresthatarebeyondthescopeofthispractice.Note18212;FurtherinformationonbackgroundandneedforthistypeoftestisgiveninthereportofASTMTaskGroupE24.01.05onPart-Through-CrackTesting(1).1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.

【摘要】:Thesurface-cracktension(SCT)testisusedtoestimatetheload-carryingcapacityofsimplesheet-orplate-likestructuralcomponentshavingatypeofflawlikelytooccurinservice.Thetestisalsousedforresearchpurposestoinvestigatefailuremechanismsofcracksunderserviceconditions.TheresidualstrengthofanSCTspecimenisafunctionofthecrackdepthandlengthandthespecimenthicknessaswellasthecharacteristicsofthematerial.Thisrelationshipisextremelycomplexandcannotbecompletelydescribedorcharacterizedatpresent.4.2.1TheresultsoftheSCTtestaresuitablefordirectapplicationtodesignonlywhentheserviceconditionsexactlyparallelthetestconditions.SomemethodsforfurtheranalysisaresuggestedinAppendixX1.InorderthatSCTtestdatacanbecomparableandreproducibleandcanbecorrelatedamonglaboratories,itisessentialthatuniformSCTtestingpracticesbeestablished.Thespecimenconfiguration,preparation,andinstrumentationdescribedinthispracticearegenerallysuitableforcyclic-orsustained-forcetestingaswell.However,certainconstraintsarepeculiartoeachofthesetests.ThesearebeyondthescopeofthispracticebutarediscussedinRef.(1).1.1Thispracticecoversthedesign,preparation,andtestingofsurface-cracktension(SCT)specimens.Itrelatesspecificallytotestingundercontinuouslyincreasingforceandexcludescyclicandsustainedloadings.Thequantitydeterminedistheresidualstrengthofaspecimenhavingasemiellipticalorcircular-segmentfatiguecrackinonesurface.Thisvaluedependsonthecrackdimensionsandthespecimenthicknessaswellasthecharacteristicsofthematerial.1.2Metallicmaterialsthatcanbetestedarenotlimitedbystrength,thickness,ortoughness.However,testsofthickspecimensoftoughmaterialsmayrequireatensiontestmachineofextremelyhighcapacity.Theapplicabilityofthispracticetononmetallicmaterialshasnotbeendetermined.1.3Thispracticeislimitedtospecimenshavingauniformrectangularcrosssectioninthetestsection.Thetestsectionwidthandlengthmustbelargewithrespecttothecracklength.Crackdepthandlengthshouldbechosentosuittheultimatepurposeofthetest.1.4Residualstrengthmaydependstronglyupontemperaturewithinacertainrangedependinguponthecharacteristicsofthematerial.Thispracticeissuitablefortestsatanyappropriatetemperature.1.5Residualstrengthisbelievedtoberelativelyinsensitivetoloadingratewithintherangenormallyusedinconventionaltensiontests.Whenveryloworveryhighratesofloadingareexpectedinservice,theeffectofloadingrateshouldbeinvestigatedusingspecialproceduresthatarebeyondthescopeofthispractice.Note18212;FurtherinformationonbackgroundandneedforthistypeoftestisgiveninthereportofASTMTaskGroupE24.01.05onPart-Through-CrackTesting(1).1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
